Visiting Unknown Places Is Very Beneficial Psychologically, Science Says

Unlike when we go back to a place we already know, traveling and discovering new places has beneficial effects, both psychologically and for our personal development.

For example, taking the time to travel to a different part of the world and a new culture and meeting new people with different perspectives and stories will enrich your life greatly and add amazing experiences that you will remember even in old age.

A study conducted in 2013, examined the impact of foreign travel on 485 American adults. This study has helped to establish a strong and real link between travel and ability to adapt, whether cultural or psychological in an unusual situation.

In this study, we also learn that going away from home, in unfamiliar surroundings, makes us much more empathetic. Conclusion, we are less likely to judge someone on their external appearance (gender, race, age, etc.). And for good reason, over time, travel and meetings have taught us to react positively, but above all to absorb new impressions rather than noted the defects or stereotypes. Going to unknown countries and step out of your comfort zone is probably the most effective choice to become an open-minded person.

On the other hand, a change of scenery can also inspire fresh ideas. And that's what researchers at the University of Utah and the University of Kansas have proven by carrying out an experiment. They took a group of 56 participants on a backpacking trip in the rock desert of Utah, away from all technologies and other distractions. 24 of them passed a logic test the day before the trip commenced, and the 32 others answered the same test on the 4th day of the trip. And the results were without appeal: the participants who passed the test in last obtained notes on average 50% better than those of the first ones.

Through studies and observations, the scientists attributed this significant improvement to the escapade in an unknown environment, which is more in full nature. This is why, for the development of mental abilities, it is necessary and largely beneficial to step out of your comfort zone and travel to experience a whole new world!
